One of my latest endeavors took me to Vesterbro in Copenhagen. It's right by the city center, which makes it a very popular area to live in. Vesterbro used to be notorious for prostitution and drug trafficking but the neighbourhood has cleaned up drastically over the last decade. The area was known as the worker's quarter and the local red lights district. It is now a blooming hipster paradise with trendy cafés, small corner shops selling local design products and cute organic green grocers on every street. The architecture is mostly from the end of the 19th century, mostly working class industrial buildings that look like they're packed with so many stories and so much history that you just feel energized simply walking around among these giants (cause them building be big since they obviously had to accommodate as many workers as possible on as little area as possible). Copenhagen's own Meat Packing District is also in Vesterbro and still largely serves it's initial purpose. There are more butcher shops around than there are meatlovers. Since it has become very hip and popular over the past years, a lot of cultural events take place in Vesterbro and many architectural firms and galleries have set up shop here. Vesterbro is just cool in a safe and comfortable way.
I walk a lot. I would say about 85% of all information I get about restaurants, exhibitions, stores and other places to go and see I get not from the internet but by randomly stumbling upon them while on one of my spontaneous walks. It's so much fun for me, I love to discover these places and it feels so much more my own and personal if I've found an amazing café or a great little shop all on my own. It's also therapeutic for me in a sense as well. I just walk around without any particular aim or direction and think my thoughts. It's great! And I always take a lot of pictures.
I have been travelling a lot these past few years and I love it. Due to my studies and work I've lived in Ghent, Belgium, L.A. in the U.S., back in my hometown and all time favorite Tallinn, Estonia and now Copenhagen, Denmark. Some of the other cities I've visited during that time include, Anwerp, Brussels, Paris, Las Palmas, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Helsinki, Las Vegas, Santa Ana, Big Bear, Santa Monica, Venice etc. I think this brings a nice variety to the content on this page and hopefully it will serve as a nice memory log after a while.
